The International School Kufstein Tirol in Kufstein was launched on September 14, 2015 as an International Baccalaureate (IB) Candidate School with 22 students.
The school administration places particular importance on personality development, the promotion of capabilities and talents as well as on an internationally oriented knowledge transfer by specially trained teaching staff. The official opening ceremony on September 25, 2015 was attended by numerous prominent figures from the fields of education, business and politics as well as religious leaders.
The opening ceremony took place in the auditorium on the campus of the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein. The opening address was given in both English and German by the Head of School, Herbert Madl. He underscored the resourcefulness, curiosity and perseverance required in the journey from concept to reality in creating a school important to both the educational system and economy of Tyrol. On this occasion, Archbishop Dr. Franz Lackner announced a recently decided social scholarship for ISK Tirol students from the Archdiocese. Dr. Lackner and Superintendent Mag. Olivier Dantine blessed the new school. In addition to the ecumenical aspect, both clerics included the English and German languages in their contribution to the ceremony, which made for an exceptional moment.
With her speech, Tyrolean Parliament member, Dr. Bettina Ellinger, represented the state governor Guenther Platter. She was clearly impressed by the fringe program put on by the ISK students and teachers and, on behalf of the state of Tyrol, thanked the creative forces behind the project and all of those who contributed to the project. Both the state of Tyrol and the municipality of Kufstein funded the construction of the school. The mayor of Kufstein, Mag. Martin Krumschnabel, honored the positive impact and dynamics generated by this innovative school in Kufstein. As per Mag. Krumschnabel, "The realization of the new educational opportunity is a great gain for Kufstein", which is recognized by the city providing a social scholarship.
The board members of the FH Kufstein Tirol-Privatstiftung (private foundation of the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol), Dr. Dillersberger, Ing. Treichl and DDr. van Staa, president of the regional parliament, being representatives of the body maintaining the school, honored retired Archbishop Dr. Kothgasser and the Ordinariate Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Salzburg, Dr. Elisabeth Kandler-Mayr, for their contributions to the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol and the ISK Tirol.
